Do Infertility Drugs Increase Your Chances of Twins and Triplets ? You’ve got it. This is no myth.
One of the first line of drugs used in infertility treatments is Clomid, or clomiphene citrate. Because about 25 percent of female factor infertility involves ovulatory issues, Clomid is a relatively common medication.
Chances are either you or someone you know has taken this medication. Clomid is prescribed to help restore normal ovulation in women with irregular or absent ovulatory periods. Once ovulation becomes regular, the drug is continued through six menstrual cycles. Studies show that its benĀefits decrease substantially after six cycles. Forty to forty-five percent of patients on Clomid will achieve pregnancy within the first six months of use. However, Clomid does increase the chance of multiple births. If you’re on Clomid, you have an approximately 10 percent chance of having twins and less than a 1 percent chance of having triplets.
